…or is that thinking vs. feeling?…
I am really enjoying the book mentioned yesterday, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. In it, he illustrates the differences between the human ego and the true nature of the being that you are. He explains that it is when we are thinking - which is pretty much constantly - that we are immersed in ego, and only when we are feelingĀ are we truly experiencing our own essence. This feeling does not include reactive feelings that are caused by thoughts…it is the feeling of existence - the ‘I am’ that is allowed to surface when we stop thinking for a moment - to which he refers. Although I have studied human nature for many years, I find his approach refreshing and enlightening.
One way in which I feel this knowledge - this change in perception - can help is to take us out of our own thoughts and observe them. We are NOT our thoughts, and while we talk a lotĀ about our thoughts creating our reality, we must distinguish here between ultimate reality and what seems to be ‘every day’ reality. Indeed our thoughts do perpetuate situations and create new ones, based on their nature and direction. When we can ’step aside’ from the process and observe our thoughts, there is a wholly different perspective. This observation of thoughts by being detached from them allows for more clarity, and thus we may create changes in intention which just are not possible when we are immersed in our own thought process. Imagine this by picturing the difference between working with a puzzle as an outside observer who can see the intended picture (result) vs. being one of the pieces.
I love new perspectives, and this book is defintely creating that for me, which is why I am sharing the experience with you. As we often say, change your mind, and change your LIFE!
