Personal Development: You Can’t Do EVERYTHING
Author: Shauna | Category: Law of Attraction, Personal DevelopmentWe have been telling you that you can do ANYTHING you want - you have no limits, except those you place on yourself. This in itself is a concept that requires study, introspection and personal change to internalize. BUT along with this lofty possibility comes the flip side, and that is that you cannot do EVERYTHING. In fact, the more you float around thinking about your ability to do ‘anything’, the less of ‘everything’ you will enjoy in your given lifespan.
There is a distinction here, and it’s really important: You can do ANYTHING, but you can’t do EVERYTHING. We are always - in each moment - faced with choices, and choosing one thing means letting go of the others…choosing forgiveness means no anger, etc.. This does not mean that we cannot have BOTH when it comes to goals - eg. we can have love AND financial success; we can have the red shirt AND the green shirt…no. It’s bigger than that.
What I am saying is that the world, the Universe, is full of such incredible variety in choice and experience, that unless we narrow our choices we will not get anything done, and in fact will experience and create far less than we are capable of. You cannot be a lawyer and a doctor and a politician and an Olympic athlete (and be brilliant at them all). We are capable of so much as human beings, but it is when we choose to FOCUS that this capacity for greatness, for excellence, becomes available.
I will use Ophelia and myself as examples to illustrate this. We LOVE internet marketing, and websites, and learning about new ways to implement ideas…we are constantly learning and researching and trying new things…BUT there comes a time when we must CHOOSE what we wish to focus on. We have many, many more ideas than we could possibly implement. If we keep excitedly coming up with new ideas and implementing them (after research of course), we will never finish anything we start, and this is NOT good.
So, we must make conscious choices. I can do this, or I can do that - I only have 24 hours in a day, so I must decide where to focus. FOCUS and CLARITY are two huge assets that we cultivate, because without them there is only chaos and nothing would ever get accomplished.
We’ve said ‘run your own race’ - the next step is ‘which track do you want to run on?’…

GREAT post, Shauna!
What a wonderful way to point out our unlimited potential, yet bring it all back down to how we can express the most possible power, and that is by focus on the things that we want the most.
Really great advice!

Thanks for the post!
This reminds me of the business book “Good to Great”. It’s about how average companies became great companies.
We can apply what’s in the book to our personal lives as well. To really boil it down to 3 points:
- clarity
- focus
- consistent action.
Actually, when you look at the essence of many personal development books, the message is similar.
What works for individuals, works for companies (which are ultimately a collection of individuals working as a team).
Cheers!

Haha, that’s very true especially for internet marketing because there’s so many possibilities, so many ideas, so many ’sales pitches’, it’s not easy to stay focus!
Someone shared with me the Power of ONE. Do one thing at a time and don’t move on until it’s completed… sounds easy…

This is SO true. Between trying to get/do everything and trying to convince themselves that they really believe in things that they still harbor doubts about, I see so many people get frustrated that the manifestation process doesn’t work for them.
Though, I can’t help but wonder what would have happen if I ran on a different track. KWIM?

[…] In beginning to read Pam’s insightful and very professional content, I came across something she herself mentions has been ’smacking her in the forehead’ lately…that of the benefit of laser focus. As in, focus on what you are REALLY good at, and the world will beat a path to your door…not because you ASK them to, but because they cannot help themselves. People are drawn to seek out excellence in any particular field. In her article, Pam says ‘Dropping things that you are mediocre at and focusing on the things that you can be truly great at is the only path to mastery.’ So true, and an answer to a question that I was not aware I was asking…which is ‘which of the many things that I could be doing should I be focusing on?…’ I have many, many, internet opportunities, tasks, business ideas and projects on the go and calling to me. I feel as if something must give, and this is a good reminder that I should be narrowing my focus. I wrote an article recently entitled ‘You Can Do Anything, But You Can’t do Everything’, and I think it’s time I take my own advice! […]
