While reading ‘Accept Your Abundance’ by Randy Gage, I came across the sentence, “Self-sacrifice is more than the root of low self-esteem, it is anti-prosperity, and consequently anti-human.” I disagree with the anti-human remark because I believe that being human is about experience. If we choose anti-prosperity, that is our decision to have that experience. I do, however agree that self-sacrifice is the root of all anti-prosperity.
As a parent, I am tempted towards self-sacrifice on a constant and consistent basis. What I have learned the hard way, though, is that if I do not take care of myself, I have nothing to give to my children. If I am sick, I cannot take care of my children. If I am tired and frustrated, I do a poor job of parenting. If I am broke, my children suffer in countless ways.
Since you’re here searching for the answer to your lack of prosperity, I will wager that you are suffering from self-sacrifice of some sort. Just decide that you will put yourself first at all costs and let that be that. This decision will be the start of the rest of your life.
