I have been feeling especially reflective today and with SO many questions in my head, I waffled about what to write here. Finally, while sitting here, staring at a blank blog space waiting to be filled with my wisdom, it hit me. Well, he hit me actually. My eight month old son is learning to stand and walk and he’s using me as his pull up bar (and sometimes I get smacked!). So, back to you and today’s thought. Where do you give up? Actually, a more refining question is, ‘When is a good time to give up?’
For instance, you have this GREAT idea to become a famous singer. At which point do you accept that you’re tone deaf and go home to do something that is more in line with your talents? When learning to walk, babies are relentless and falling down means absolutely nothing to them. I admire that in my children and strive to emulate it in some aspects of my life. There is, however, a time when you say, ‘I do not have the skills, talent or passion (especially passion) to pull this off. It is time to hang up my apron.’
The bottom line is that if you’re passionate about something, you will find ways (and people) to compensate for your lack of skill, talent and/or resources. If, however, you have no passion for what you’re doing, you will continually hit a brick wall. You can be as tenacious as a bull dog and all you will reap is frustration.
